چکیده

The orbit SL(2,Z)x is dense in R2 when the initial point x ∈ R2 has irrational slope. We refine this result from a diophantine perspective. For any target point y ∈ R2, we introduce two exponents μ(x,y) and μ̂(x,y) that measure the approximation to y by elements γx of the orbit in terms of the size of γ. We estimate both exponents under various conditions. Our results are optimal when the slope of the target point y is a rational number. In that case we express μ(x,y) and μ̂(x,y) in terms of the irrationality measure of the slope of x.

Harmonic Analysis on SL(2,C) and Projectively Adapted Pattern Representation

Among all image transforms the classical (Euclidean) Fourier transform has had the widest range of applications in image processing. Here its projective analogue, given by the double cover group SL(2,C) of the projective group PSL(2,C) for patterns, is developed. First, a projectively invariant classification of patterns is constructed in terms of orbits of the group PSL(2,C) acting on the imag...

Unipotent Flows on Products of Sl(2,k)/γ’s

We will give a simplified and a direct proof of a special case of Ratner’s theorem on closures and uniform distribution of individual orbits of unipotent flows; namely, the case of orbits of the diagonally embedded unipotent subgroup acting on SL(2, K)/Γ1 × · · ·×SL(2, K)/Γn, where K is a locally compact field of characteristic 0 and each Γi is a cocompact discrete subgroup of SL(2, K). This sp...

Pick's Theorem in Two-Dimensional Subspace of ℝ3

In the Euclidean space ℝ(3), denote the set of all points with integer coordinate by ℤ(3). For any two-dimensional simple lattice polygon P, we establish the following analogy version of Pick's Theorem, k(I(P) + (1/2)B(P) - 1), where B(P) is the number of lattice points on the boundary of P in ℤ(3), I(P) is the number of lattice points in the interior of P in ℤ(3), and k is a constant only rela...

Low-Thrust Optimal Orbit Raising with Plane Change

A new guidance scheme for the problem of Low-thrust transfer between inclined orbits is developed within the framework of optimal control theory. The objective of the guidance scheme is to provide the appropriate thrust steering program that will transfer the vehicle from an inclined low earth orbits to the high earth orbits. The presented guidance scheme is determined using Pontryagin’s princi...

TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF PLANE STRUCTURES USING BINARY LEVEL SET METHOD AND ISOGEOMETRIC ANALYSIS

This paper presents the topology optimization of plane structures using a binary level set (BLS) approach and isogeometric analysis (IGA). In the standard level set method, the domain boundary is descripted as an isocountour of a scalar function of a higher dimensionality. The evolution of this boundary is governed by Hamilton–Jacobi equation. In the BLS method, the interfaces of subdomai...
